Packing heat today 9/15/09
After hearing my chiropractors story of how the DPNR and the Coast Guard boarded his sailboat about 2 years ago (on a training exercise) looking for anything illegal or anything expired (license, flairs, fire extinguisher), I decided to check out our stock on the boat today. Since the boat is out of the water and being worked on by our mechanic, I boarded her early this morning on the dry rack and had to crawl under the cover and get inside to the cabin and search away. I was going to do this yesterday but had a skirt on and well, that just doesn't work to climb up the swim platform ladder ya know.
Well, we do have a flair gun however the flairs have been expired since Dec. 2006! Oops! I am sure they still work but still, it's best to get them up to code. We do have though tons of life vests though, way over our needed limit.
I went to Budget Marine (the big kids boat store) on the island next to where we keep our boat and got some new flairs (packing heat with my plastic gun in hand) and new canvas top pins. Dennis dropped on in the water last week while we were putting the top back on after storm Erika. Oops. Not worth diving in mucky water to find a $2 pin.
Our mechanic still can't find what the heck is wrong with the boat engine but has now replaced the empeller (who knows what that does and it sounds expensive too) and is still working on it. He feels so bad that we can't go out on the boat (which is good too). It may be another weekend NOT on the water.
Today while I was checking the mail, I felt a splash of water on me and I looked around and it wasn't raining. I had an iguana in the tree over my mailbox who was PEEING! Geez! good thing I jumped out of the way really fast and had my gym clothes on too. They pee a lot like a fire hose.
