Seaglass, shells and rocks found at Hull Bay in St. Thomas

When it's the weekend, it means time to spend outdoors at the beach or on the boat. This weekend we hit Hull Bay beach on the North side of the island to relax and yes, I had to look for sea glass and shells too. Most of the time I just can't sit for every long until I am up and searching for treasures when we go to the beach.

I was thinking that this week we have had some heavy rain so it would be a good time to search the beach to see what washed up from the rain storms (this beach happens to be kinda rocky which is good for trapping sea glass and shells). Though there wasn't a ton of glass I did find 4 green bottle bottoms, a Netted Olive shell, Deltoid Rock shells, and a gorgeous colorful Atlantic Natica (the one closest to the left, in front of the seaglass).

There were plenty of West Indian Top shells to find too though most of them were not whole (I still like them anyway). According to the National Audubon's Society Field Guide to North American Seashells, the Atlantic Natica is a favorite with collectors because of it's vivid pattern of bands, streaks and spots. I think it looks like a bloodshot eye really and is super unique. I found another beautiful one on honeymoon beach about 5 years ago that I still have stilling on my kitchen window area.

After shelling, I like to pull out my shell book and research what I have found for the day. Here is the link to just one of the books I use.
